Author names

When I am manually adding references to my library, should I put the author's first name or just the initial? Will Mendeley automatically generate only last name and first initial for a reference page?

shortened reference in bibliography

Hi! When I created my bibliography, some of the references are shortened with an ellipsis (...) instead of the rest of the journal name, DOI, etc. I'd like the full citation to appear. Examples: Benoit, C., & Jansson, M. (2005). Community-academic research on hard-to-reach populations: Benefits and challenges. Qualitative Health …. Blanco, C., Alderson, D., & Ogburn, E. (2007). Changes in the prevalence of non-medical prescription drug use and drug use disorders in the United States: 1991–1992 and 2001–2002. Drug and Alcohol ….

"Terms of use" bug ?

I do not have administrative privileges on my ubuntu linux system, so would like my system administrator to install mendeley for me. This is strangely enough prevented by the terms of use (ToU) as specified in §4.1, because while you are permitted to distribute the software for other users, you are only granted the right to install the software for personal use. That is, the system administrator does not have permission to install the software for me, and I cannot do it myself for system privilege reasons. Surely this is not the intention and merely a bug in the ToU? I think the ToU could be easily fixed by explicitly allowing not only the distribution, but also the installation of the software for other users. The usage of the software would still be covered by the ToU as not only the installer but also the user would have to agree to the ToU. I know I can install and use the generic linux distribution without administrative privileges, which is a nice workaround, but I'd rather have the ToU fixed as it would simplify system maintenance if the administrator was permitted to administrate the software. For your reference, here is §4.1 of the ToU: " 4.1. We hereby grant to you a non-exclusive, personal, non-transferable license, in accordance with these Terms of Use, to: 4.1.1. download, install and use the Software for the purposes of cataloguing and managing your Academic Papers, including making a back-up copy of your Academic Papers; 4.1.2. distribute the Software so that other users may install and use the Software for the purposes of cataloguing and managing their Academic Papers; and 4.1.3. make a copy of the Software for back-up purposes."

publish date identification mismatch published online-published on paper

Some of my sources the 'online' publishing year is different than the paper publish year. Mendeley should catch the paper publish year for referencing. Now this does not always goes correclty

Find articles that cite any article within a folder

I know that I can't use Mendeley to find articles that cite another article. But I also know that there are other tools for this (e.g. Google Scholar, WOK, Scopus). However, what I would really like to do is specify a thematic group of articles (e.g. one of my Mendeley folder/collections) and then be provided with a list of articles that cite any of the articles within my specified folder. For each article in this list, it would also be interesting to know how many of the articles in my folder were cited by that article. This would help me quickly identify any highly relevant articles that are newer than those I already have in my thematic folders. I know Mendeley can't do this, but I was wondering if there was a 3rd party app/service that integrates with Mendeley (or even one that doesn't directly integrate with Mendeley) that does this or does something similar?

Folders disappeared

Hello there, at least 3 of my folders disappeared (on both computers I use Mendeley at and online as well). Their names are "#1", "#2", "#3". Is it because of the #? How can I recover them? Or rather the structure which is important to me. Thank you, Robert

Linking mendeley to iOS RSS readers (eg Newsify)

Hi all, I'm moving all my email-based TOC alerts to RSS. So, as I go through my feeds from journals, and see an article of interest, i would like to save this somewhere to read in full later, and to keep a reference to. I thought that Mendeley would be the ideal spot, if possible. Ideally, I would like to be able to send the RSS link from my newsreader (in my case, Newsify) to Mendeley in my iphone, and specify where in mendeley it should go (i.e. tags or folders). Does anyone know if this is possible? Thanks in advance...

In-text Citation (Author Last Name, Journal, Year)

In medical sciences presentations, the following is a very common format used in slides: (Smith, Nature Med, 2014) I want to be able to use this style in Words as well. I don't see any reference style that have such a in-text citation style even when I use your search tool. http://editor.citationstyles.org/searchByExample/ I am trying to avoid having to learn CSL. Does any one here know if there is a pre-existing reference style that includes the journal name, in-text? Many thanks!!!

Is it possible to have multiple unrelated Mendeley files in my computer? I have worked for decades with unrelated research areas and projects. It does not seems right to put thousands of journal papers into a single Mendeley file even though they can be placed in different Mendeley folders. How to create more than one Mendeley files, make them un-linked, and put them in different places in My Document?

Word not working with Mendeley Plugin

After installing the Word-Plugin of Mendeley, my Word will not open any document any more. It will just freeze in a completely white screen after selecting which file to open, or which kind of document should be created. I already tried uninstalling the Plugin, Mendeley itself, and Word multiple times, Error still persists. If I go to the STARTUP-Folder, I can however manually open the mendeley.dotm file, and then it works. Is there any known way to resolve this issue? It makes Mendeley completely unusable for me. I am using Mendeley 1.13.3 with Word 2013 on Windows 7 Pro. Thanks in advance.

Hello, I clicked 'install update' when i opened Mendeley on my mac. I am using Word 2008 and now it says that the plug-in is only supported for Word 2011. Is the only way to resolve this issue by upgrading to Word 2011? I am hesitant to buy the 2011 version of Word if the same thing is going to happen soon if the 2013 plug-in is added. Is there any other solution? thanks

I have a back up of all my PDF's on my USB stick from which I export each file into mendeley by going to 'add file'. However, once I remove my USB stick and try to re-open the file I just added to Mendeley it doesn't want to open and a message prompt says 'the location of the file is missing'. I am not sure what I am doing wrong? Is there something I am missing when I add a file to Mendeley? Please help because this is really slowing down writing my report. Thank you in advance! Rin
