highlighting

Hello. I am learning to use Mendeley. When I double click on a PDF that is in my library it does come up but the toolbar does not look at all like the one in the Tutorial. There are no highlighting type buttons on the left. What is there are a few buttons on the right - one to 'disable select tool' (?) and one to make a sticky note and also print and download buttons. Why does it not allow highlighting which is super important to be able to do? Also, the Library listing does not look like the one in the tutorial also. There are no columns to the right of the article name like there are in the tutorial. Thank you, Sarah Brunnig

Files not (all) syncing and highlighted text disappearing

Hello everyone, I've been using Mendeley since two weeks ago. While I usually work from my office, I sometimes have to work from home. This is the reason I have started using Mendeley, but it has been a complete disaster. I have set up the work computer at my office to sync my entire library. However, when I log in from home, not every document is accessible. All PDFs are just fine, but SOME Word documents (.doc and .docx) and related files (.odt, etc.) aren't synced at all, meaning that I can't access them on my home computer using Mendeley Desktop. Is this intended, or can I change the settings to make sure my Word files (the ones I do most of my work in!) are uploaded and downloadable? Further, whenever I access my library through Mendeley web, some highlighted text is sometimes missing. This ruins my workflow. I'm hoping someone can help me alleviate these issues. Thanks in advance.

Problem specifying citation style (Meteoritics & Planetary Science)

Hi there, I'm new to Mendeley so sorry if this question is an obvious one. I would like to format citations in a manuscript according to the Meteoritics & Planetary Science guidelines. I found the Meteoritics & Planetary Science .csl file on the Mendeley website (csl.mendeley.com), but it when I add it to the Mendeley desktop app (Mac) it formats the references wrong in Microsoft Word. The citation in the bibliography section is perfect, but the in-text reference is wrong. Rather than the desired "Connelly et al. 2012" I get "Connelly, Bizzarro, Krot, Nordlund, Wielandt, and Ivanova 2012). I'd be very helpful for help and advice, Tim

trouble installing MS Word plugin

I am having trouble installing the MS Word plugin. I receive the error message: "There was a problem asking Word where to install the plugin. Please start Microsoft Word manually and try again." This happens whether or not I start MS Word manually. Sometimes the Mendeley scripts do appear in the MS Toolbar, but they don't do anything. When I try to add a citation or bibliography, nothing happens. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin, to no avail. Any idea what could be wrong?

I need help on this one: I am still writing a manuscript so i want to use square bracket method of referencing (e.g [1]....[2-4]) but under bibliography I want the references to appear as follows: REFERENCES 1. Mafa JP, RRRRRR TY, TTTTTTT YZ (2015) Synthesis of gold nanorots. Carbon 2:9-10 2. 3. 4. Not [1] Mafa JP, RRRRRR TY, TTTTTTT YZ (2015) Synthesis of gold nanorots. Carbon 2:9-10 [2] [3] [4]

is there a way to create a PDF with all 400 of the article titles and abstracts in a folder

this a question I got as a librarian----- Stephanie and I are at the point where we are ready to begin our first pass through the articles for the systematic review. I was looking through the group we have on Mendeley and there is just under 400 articles to go through. Do you know if there is a way to create a PDF with all of the article titles and abstracts? Ideally I would like to print this out to help me go through each article one by one. I can’t seem to find an option to create a document like this from the papers section and thought I’d ask you if it was an option at all. Thank you for your help and I hope you’re doing well. Talk to you soon.

Feature Request? Generate book section linked references to enable citing specific chapters.

I have not found an efficient way to do something that seems quite a common problem (from reading the forum here): creating a reference for a book and then easily creating references for specific chapters therein. Is there a way to do this short of adding a reference manually for each chapter citation desired? Ideally, it would be great to be able to create a book reference with the linked file, and then easily create subordinate, linked references for chapters that you want to cite specifically - a kind of parent/child schema that would easily pre-populate and then maintain the book's bibliographic information for all related chapters. It also would minimize the need for pdf duplication or surgery. If this doesn't exist, could it be considered for a future update? Thanks.

Hyphenated Names bug?

For reference with hyphenated names, it appears that the format automatically adds spaces on either side of the hyphen itself, like: "Surname1 - Surname2, FirstName." This seems like a bug and I can't get it to change even by going into the CSL. Pointers/solutions please? Thanks!

How do I create in-text citations (i.e. Huestegge, Kunert, & Radach (2010)). Currently I have to enter the reference (Huestegge, Kunert, & Radach, 2010) and rearrange the brackets each time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Experimental release for Word 2016 for Mac

I am currently using the experimental release for Word 2016 for Mac and I am having issues with correctly importing references into a document. Firstly, the volume and page numbers are not being inserted into some journal references when they should be, and secondly when I delete an in text reference it isn't being removed from my bibliography. I am not too sure if I am doing anything wrong, or it is a problem with the release??

How to standardize journal names

I have been using Endnote, but I've decided to give Mendeley a try, because Endnote takes forever to do updates (e.g. Microsoft Office 2016). SO, I imported all of my PDFs (thousands) and spent two days manually correcting all of them that had errors importing. Now, I am having the problem that all of the journal names are not standardized. This post exactly describes the problems I am having: http://brandon.invergo.net/news/2012-12-13-Damn-It-Mendeley.html This post was made two years ago. Has this been fixed? Or do I have to manually edit all of the journal names to standardize them? Is there any way to force the citation to use a proper database (like PubMed) instead of whatever user-entered information that some of these citations seem to be based on? I hope there is some automated way to fix all of this. This is citation software, and I want to be very nit-picky about making sure all of the journal titles and author names are correct. I've search the forum here briefly but did not find an answer to this. Please tell me that I don't have to manually go through and edit the many thousands of references I have. (I have not yet imported all of my Endnote references, I have just imported all of the PDFs I have collected.)

Sharing a folder with a colleague

Hi, I'm co-writing a paper with a colleague and it would be useful if we could share a folder in Mendeley Desktop with all the references needed for this paper. Is this possible? If not that would be a welcome improvement. Thank you. Best, Bjarke
