How to standardize journal names

I have been using Endnote, but I've decided to give Mendeley a try, because Endnote takes forever to do updates (e.g. Microsoft Office 2016). SO, I imported all of my PDFs (thousands) and spent two days manually correcting all of them that had errors importing. Now, I am having the problem that all of the journal names are not standardized. This post exactly describes the problems I am having: http://brandon.invergo.net/news/2012-12-13-Damn-It-Mendeley.html This post was made two years ago. Has this been fixed? Or do I have to manually edit all of the journal names to standardize them? Is there any way to force the citation to use a proper database (like PubMed) instead of whatever user-entered information that some of these citations seem to be based on? I hope there is some automated way to fix all of this. This is citation software, and I want to be very nit-picky about making sure all of the journal titles and author names are correct. I've search the forum here briefly but did not find an answer to this. Please tell me that I don't have to manually go through and edit the many thousands of references I have. (I have not yet imported all of my Endnote references, I have just imported all of the PDFs I have collected.)
