Hi,
I recently took over the director's position at the Regenstrief Institute (RI) Center for Biomedical Informatics (CBMI). One near term goal is to offer the Center's many publications in various collections on our own Website.
I have been using Mendeley personally for quite some time and am quite familiar with it. However, I'm not sure how to model the following functionality:
1. I would like each one of my faculty members to maintain their personal collection of publications (ok, easy).
2. I would like to aggregate ALL faculty members' publications into one collection for our Center that would be displayed under "Center publications".
3. My boss, the president of the Institute, is thinking of aggregating the publications of all RI centers into an Institute-wide publication directory, so this would be another level up.
So, in essence, we would like to have a "structured" way of presenting publications at various levels of the Institute without having to manually maintain several different Mendeley databases.
In addition, I would like to offer program-specific bibliographies. These will be collections that all relate to a certain research topic or theme. I can imagine that the "Collections" feature in Mendeley could be useful for that, but I do not know how to use that feature across people.
The last question pertains to making pdf files of the publications available. As of right now, I do not know exactly how Mendeley handles digital rights management issues. Some journals allow authors to publish a personal copy of a paper on their own website, but I'm not sure how Mendeley would know that. Clearly, our intent is to make all publication pdfs accessible, if possible.
Thanks for your help with this in advance!
Titus
