Hallo,
I have a problem syncing my PDFs between multiple instances of Mendeley Desktop which started around March this year and has since not been resolved. Before I describe my problem, I have to complain about your support team, which repeatedly stopped responding after one or two mails. More than two months ago, I sent them my log files and was told that they would be transferred to a higher support agent to investigate further. However, I neither received a response to my question how long this will take, nor has the problem since been solved. This is extremely annoying, because I started paying for Mendeley to get more storage space and organize my large collection of PDFs. As things are now, I pay more than 100€ per year to use Mendeley as a reference manager for my citations, which could also be done with the free version.
Now let me come to the problem I’m having:
I have Mendeley Desktop installed on 3 systems: my private laptop at home, my computer at work and my surface. Before the problem started, I would add a PDF to a document while e.g. at work and synchronize to upload it to Mendeley Web. When at home, I started Mendeley Desktop on my private laptop and upon synchronizing with Mendeley Web, the PDF was downloaded and added to the local database. When I do the same today (i.e. add a PDF in Mendeley Desktop at work and synchronize), the PDF is still added to Mendeley Web, but it is no longer downloaded when I synchronize Mendeley Desktop on my private laptop (or surface). I can of course manually add the PDF to the local database on my private laptop, but then I get some error message telling me that there is a conflict with a PDF that already exists. The problem is also not restricted to a particular instance of Mendeley Desktop, so that a PDF added at work will only be available at work (and in Mendeley Web), while a PDF added at home will only be available at home (and in Mendeley Web), and so on. Therefore, and because everything worked fine up until some months ago, I believe it is very unlikely that the problem is related to my settings, the operating system or the hardware.
Among other things, the log-files tell me the following (the second message occurs repeatedly but with different papers from my library):
Error: Error downloading https://api.mendeley.com/files/?added_since=2017-03-08T09:14:10.000Z&include_trashed=true&limit=100 - server replied: GATEWAY_TIMEOUT
