Disconnecting a word document from Mendeley

I use Mendeley. When I am reviewing other work by those that use Mendeley I cannot use the MS Word comments function to query references - the whole ref list gets selected. How do I stop a given document from doing this (i.e. unhook the hyperlink to my Mendeley)? Thanks
