Hi!
Mendeley is a great solution for me as an academic, but there's something that keeps boggling me.
Mendeley desktop programme doesn't recognize the comments I left in the PDF file while working with it in Acrobat Reader. All it does is keeping my highlighting, but from editable additions they become one layer with the text - an image, if you will. I can't delete or modify them. And, as I said, all the textual comments I left in Acrobat Reader aren't supported by Mendeley.
The same is more or less true for the reversed experiment. When a file is imported from Mendeley Desktop and saved with all the annotations/notes, Acrobat Reader recognises the textual notes and allows to edit/remove them. However, all the highlighting is uneditable, it again becomes one with the text.
This is boggling me because I'd like to be able to synchronise my notes. I've already got lots of files which have been previously annotated in Acrobat Reader, and I'd like to work with them in Mendeley. However, the only way I see is to manually delete all the annotations from the file in Acrobat Reader, save the file as a copy, upload it to Mendeley and then manually highlight the required fragments and copy-paste all notes. I believe you can see how much of an inconvenience this method is.
To sum up, here's my question: is it somehow possible to save and transfer all notes I've made in the file while working with it in Acrobat Reader when uploading the file to Mendeley Desktop?
Thank you in advance.
Denis.
