I saw this same problem raised in January 2012 with a response that it will hopefully be fixed soon. Is there a fix to it yet? This kind of mess: "Go to ISI://000071130100007" is included in the citation. I just today tried switching from endnote to mendeley and was super excited about switching, but the article I am working on right now needs full citation end notes. BLERG.

The link to certain pdf files gets lost everytime I sync Mendeley Desktop
Certain files lose their link with the pdf files (which luckily is still in the backup folder) when I sync the Desktop.
Not a broken chain icon but totally no file at all.
I reconnected (add file) already 10 times, which works, but after sync it is lost yet again.
Now that I am at it: sometimes pdf files cannot be opened because they are corrupt. But of course sometimes they suddenly are readible.
I have to say Mendeley Desktop has a will of its own.

Hi I want my mendelez data backed up for peace of mind since it has crashed a couple of times in the couple of days I have been using it. I tried to do this manually but the file I sent to my documents was not openable. I have Carbonite...does Mendelez get backed up in this? Thanks

adding page numbers to citations
I am using Mendeley on a Mac. I see in previous discussions from 2011 & 2012 that Mendeley was working on a way to include page numbers with in-text citations. Has this been resolved? I can't figure out how to do it.

view notes online
I've seen many questions about notes on this site, but several features appear not to be implemented. Perhaps if more people continue asking for the same feature, it will be incorporated into Mendeley (which is otherwise a very nice program/service).
Here's the question: Will it be possible to view my notes (not annotations; the text in the box on the upper-right corner) online? Ideally, I would like to be able to view/edit notes on the desktop and online versions. Strangely, I can search for notes online but not view them. I've confirmed this by typing words that don't exist. When I search for those nonwords online, I get the associated reference, but can't see the notes.

Citation style
Hi,
I am trying to change the citation style of my bibliography but having a hard time despite giving it a shot at CSL editor. Could you help. The style is not available in the repository. The closest I could use was IEEE

Taking backup of all the pdf files
Hi,
Can you please advise how can I take the backup of all the 'pdf' files which I have added/stored on Mendeley over the period of time.
Using the feature "help - create backup" would not store all the pdf files. I assume it only takes a backup of your schema (metadata)without any attachments.
I'm a PhD student and I have quite a lot of pdf files which I have collected and stored in Mendeley - I have synced it with difference systems and I just want to have a copy of all the pdf files at a single location.
I will be grateful if you kindly advise.

Hi, I saw this topic existed for Mac and the problem seems to have been solved with the last update.
But for me (Version 1.9.2) It takes me about one minute to add a reference in my word document!
Is anyone else encountering this pb?

how do i stop all pdfs being automatically downloaded into Mendeley
I recently started using Mendeley and find it very helpful. Unfortunately I know have an issue that is bothersome. Every time I open a pdf document, it automatically gets downloaded into Mendeley. For instance, I open a press release from a website and it was saved into Mendeley. Any document I open using Google Scholar or PubMed goes directly into Mendeley. This is time-consuming and inefficient as I don't want every single document I look at in my document software. I have checked under Watched Documents and nothing is clicked on. HELP!! This is very annoying!

Problem to cite references
I have a new laptop and moved from windows XP to Windows 7, have downloaded the mendeley desktop, can view my articles through the mendeley desktop. However, when I click references, the citation button is not red therefore making it imposssible for me to cite the reference.

Is there a way of creating an author list, with instution affiliations (which are just like references)? I know this is possible in EndNote and would be really useful as more and more publications in medical sciences now have more than a hundred authors.

Access date format

How can I change the way a date is displayed in my bibliography?
All the access dates for websites are in the format MM/DD/YYYY and I want them as DD/MM/YYYY or YYYY/MM/DD
I use a slightly modified version of the Nature citation style, where I added a date after the URL (with the date-parts set to year-month-day, the form to numeric and the variable set to accessed)

Inconsistencies with copying citations in Desktop
Hi there
I use the Harvard Reference Format 1 (author-date) referencing style and I have noticed inconsistencies when copying citations.
When I copy citations for a paper on Mendeley Desktop (to place in a word document) sometimes the full list of authors is in the citation but sometimes it adds the first author in the citation followed by 'et al'.
Can you explain to me why this is? Am I entering authors names in the 'details' section incorrectly?

For example: For a certain book in my Mendeley library I have 10 quotes which I would like to insert in my Mendeley database, Is it possible to add them to Mendeley in a way that I can cite them from my word processor?
I have searched the FAQ and the support forum and I could not find anything related. And on the referred book there is the possibility for only one note.

How not to lose your changes in references?
I have reviewed all my references in Mendeley, correcting the errors that appear after dragging and adding pdf's.
When I opened my Mendeley today all that work had lost. Everything is exactly the same as in the beginning. All errors are there. My corrections are lost.
Anyone know how to make changes and maintain them?

managing initials
Three questions/problems with initials
1) When will Mendeley see Smith, John and Smith, J as the same author? (and not add initials in the in-line citation in Word)
2) What is the correct way to input or format the author initials in Mendeley? Smith, J. (with a dot) or Smith, J (without a dot)?
As now a bibliography is a mix of initials with and without dot (depending on the style). An automated function putting a dot everywhere (or removing all dots) would be nice.
3) What is the correct way to input or format the author initials when he has middle name(s) in Mendeley? Smith, J. A. (with a space and a dot) Smith, J.A. (without space but with a dot) Smith, J A (with a space and without a dot) Smith, JA (without space and dot)
